What’s the big deal about abs?

They’re hidden under your clothes 80% of the time, unless you’re a professional surfer, Olympic volleyball player, or underwear model. But for the rest of us, abs are just there, sitting under our shirts with the occasional appearance at the beach or pool.

However, abs are an important part of your body. Good core strength means better strength over all, and when it comes to activities like lifting and running, a good set of abs can be an advantage.

Luckily, for the normal human who doesn’t have an hour in her schedule to devote to an ab workout, there’s a wonderful thing called 5-minute abs. It’s a mini-workout that, if done right, will leave you sore the next day and more aware of using your abs during everyday tasks.

5-Minute Abs

Do each of these exercises for thirty seconds with no resting in between. You can do anything for thirty seconds, right?

  1. Leg drops
  2. Scissors
  3. Toe touches
  4. Plank
  5. Twisting crunches
  6. V sit-ups
  7. Mountain climbers
  8. In and out abs
  9. Russian twists
  10. Supermans

If this is too easy for you, try repeating the cycle 2 or 3 times.

Remember, abs, just like any other muscle, need time to rest in order to get stronger. Don’t do multiple days of ab workouts in a row–you should be too sore after one day!
